I’ll be teaching two classes at the Oak Park Art League this fall. I also offer private lessons in my studio and give 2 and 3 day workshops.  Send me an email if you are interested in any of these classes, a private lesson or more information:  kmj3@mac.com.

The Wednesday afternoon class at the Oak Park Art League is called

WHEN COMPOSITION MEETS COLOR: OIL OR PASTEL

In this workshop, students will be exposed to a variety of painting methods and techniques while working through several small still life paintings each day. Learn how to identify color and mix vibrant, rich hues that keep your paintings fresh. You will address the conceptual concerns that emerge from this spontaneous way of working.

Experience

Join Kathy as she shares techniques in both oil paint and pastels through demonstrations, exercises, handouts, and one-on-one instruction. Working from individually created still lifes, you will work quickly through thumbnails to resolve compositional issues, as well as small-scale paintings..

Learn to make your painting exciting from 3 inches or 30 feet.

Thursday mornings.   Life Drawing and Painting: FIgure and Portraiture

.9:30 to 12:30

.

If you can learn to draw the face or the figure, you can draw anything in the world!

.Working from a live model, coursework in this five-week class will be evenly divided between portrait and figure. With instruction in both drawing and painting, students will develop observational skills, learning to see value, edges and negative space. A limited palette will be used to explore color, as students gain knowledge and confidence in color-mixing and brushwork. Working with vine charcoal, instruction will emphasize how to capture a likeness both accurately and abstractly.

.This class is open to all levels of experience. Beginners are welcome and will receive plenty of individualized instruction at the easel.
